Ian Wright has blamed Maurizio Sarri for Chelsea’s current malaise, ahead of an important few games.
The Blues looked like title contenders early in the season, but their form has dipped alarmingly in recent months.
Saturday’s 2-0 defeat at Arsenal was one of their poorest showings of the campaign so far, with Sarri lambasting his players publicly after the game.
The Italian has received flack of his own, however, with many critical of his rigid tactics and failure to get the most out of his players.
Speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live, Wright feels Sarri has to shoulder plenty of the blame, with Chelsea’s success often dependent on individual brilliance more than anything:
The players are obviously not happy with the system they’re playing in. I’m not seeing enough intensity, not enough energy.
There doesn’t seem to be an end goal to the plan to what they’re trying to do.
Once they get into that last third, it’s almost like it goes to [Eden] Hazard, ‘hopefully he’ll do something’.
Pedro, if it comes from a long ball from [David] Luiz, which Pedro should have scored with the other day and he misses it, you can get a goal like that.
Or against Newcastle, Newcastle poor defending, Willian in the box, cuts in on his right foot and into the top corner.
Exactly [it’s predictable], exactly. That’s what it is.
Why would you enjoy that? Why would you be motivated to want to play like that?
The Blues host Tottenham in the second leg of the EFL Cup semi-final on Thursday night, trailing 1-0 from the first leg.
They then face Championship side Sheffield Wednesday at Stamford Bridge on Sunday, in the fourth round of the FA Cup.
