Manchester United have turned down an offer from Arsenal to sign Eric Bailly on loan for the rest of the season, according to reports.
The Ivorian has only started one of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s first seven games in charge at Man United – a 4-1 win over AFC Bournemouth, during which he was sent off.
Bailly has been an object of interest to Arsenal for over a year amid United’s search for a new central defender and the 24-year-old’s continued failure to nail down a starting place.
But according to the Mail‘s Ian Ladyman, United have no interest in losing Bailly at this stage of the season and do not wish to tell directly to a rival. Unai Emery had wanted the Ivorian to join until May with an option to buy.
There is an option on Bailly’s contract to extend his deal at Old Trafford by another two years, although the club will not make a decision on the matter until a new permanent manager is installed this summer.
You get the feeling that no concrete decisions over personnel – who to sign, who to keep, who to sell, how to play, etc – can be really made until both a director of football and permanent manager are in place at the club.
