Former Manchester United man and Jose Mourinho favourite Zlatan Ibrahimovic has admitted Paul Pogba is happier under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s management.
The Norwegian arrived last month as caretaker manager and has successfully won all seven of his matches so far in his short tenure.
Pogba has been central to that winning run of form and has returned to playing at his best for his new boss.
Ibrahimovic played alongside the Frenchman and under Mourinho’s management, seeing first-hand how the two work alongside each other.
It was believed one of the reasons the Portuguese manager was sacked from the United hot seat was due to his poor relationship with Paul.
According to ESPN, Zlatan said: “There are these players that need to be free, they need to feel free to do what they are able to do under the disciple of the coach.
“Obviously, he has his tactics, he has that, but some players they go above these limits, and you need to let them be free, and I think Paul [Pogba] is one of them.
“Paul didn’t feel confidence from the coach, and the coach didn’t feel confidence for Paul. It’s difficult to perform as a player if you don’t have confidence from the coach and you don’t have that energy, that motivation, and Jose felt the same thing about Paul.
“These things happen, and that is part of the game also; I mean, not everybody can go among each other and do well together.
“I feel like you come to a moment where it is too blocked and one goes or the other one goes. At this moment, the coach left, and Paul is more free now.”
Pogba isn’t the only one to enjoy an upturn in form with Marcus Rashford, Nemanja Matic and even Romelu Lukaku improving upon Jose’s exit.
Perhaps even Ibrahimovic would’ve performed admirably under Solskjaer but United are well stocked with strikers at the moment.
The former PSG forward had an almost telepathic relationship with Paul despite only playing a little more than a season’s worth of football with him.
The midfielder benefitted from the physical presence and intelligence of Zlatan though the relationship was obviously mutually beneficial.
Fans are hoping Pogba can continue to perform outstandingly and lead the Red Devils to what seemed a previously impossible top four spot.
