Former Manchester United forward Memphis Depay has named Chelsea as one of the clubs he’d like to join in the future.
The Dutch international had a pretty uninspiring spell at United between the summer of 2015 and January 2017 but he’s found his feet once again since arriving at Lyon.
However, in an interview with Helden magazine, the 24-year-old admitted that he has no intention of staying at Lyon forever as he’d like to move to one of Europe’s biggest clubs, before name-checking Chelsea as one of those sides.
He said:
Lyon is a big club, but not one of the five best in Europe, I want to go to a club like Real Madrid, Barcelona, Chelsea, Manchester City, Paris Saint-Germain or Bayern Munich.
After scoring just seven goals in 53 appearances for United, Depay moved to Lyon and things have gone much better for him in France. However, he clearly has eyes on another move and whilst he’s named the likes of Barcelona, Chelsea and Manchester City as possible options, it looks like Madrid is his dream destination.
I want to go to a city that suits me and a club that suits me, to a team that really wants to play football. I always talk about Real Madrid, a royal club, white shirts with gold. But I’m focused right now on Lyon, and then we see where I end up.
