Unai Emery has said that he would like to sign “one or two players” now that the January transfer window is open (via Arsenal.com).
The start of 2019 has also seen the opening of the January transfer window with clubs in England free to buy and loan players.
Arsenal have been active in the winter window in recent seasons with the signings of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Henrikh Mkhitaryan last year.
The Gunners are certainly looking a little weak in certain areas of the pitch and Unai Emery has been asked whether he would like to add to his squad in January.
“It’s not easy to change or improve our team with the possibilities in the transfer market, but the club is working,” Emery said in his post-match press conference.
“We are looking at different possibilities. Maybe we can improve in the transfer market if we get the opportunity. Maybe we can sign one or two players, but it’s not easy.”
Emery was also asked specifically about Gary Cahill, a player the Gunners have been linked with but claimed that “we didn’t speak about him.”
It’s an interesting series of quotes from Unai Emery. The Gunners are seriously lacking in some areas of the pitch so it’s good to hear that the club are actively looking in the market. However, other reports question how much money the Gunners will be able to spend in the window.
