Tottenham Hotspur have baulked at Chelsea’s asking price for Michy Batshuayi, according to a report from the Evening Standard.
It was reported earlier on today that Spurs had established an interest in making a shock move for the Blues forward, whose future has come under scrutiny in recent weeks.
Several clubs have been touted in the race to sign Batshuayi, but it seems Chelsea will not let him permanently leave in a cut-price deal.
The Evening Standard claims that Maurizio Sarri’s side quoted Tottenham an asking price of £40 million for their striker, partially because of the rivalry between the two teams.
This appears to have led Mauricio Pochettino’s men to cool their interest in a late deal for the player, who has endured a difficult time in Spain on loan with Valencia.
Chelsea had agreed on loan deals in principle with West Ham and Real Betis, as per the report, but the Belgian international has not yet secured a move away from the club as the clock continues to tick ahead of the January transfer window’s deadline.
