Team News – Player Ratings – Match Highlights
Match: Brighton & Hove Albion v Arsenal
Stadium: AMEX Stadium, Brighton
—–
Arsenal could only come away with a 1-1 draw in the Boxing Day visit to Brighton, despite taking an early lead through Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
Excellent work from teammate Alexandre Lacazette with just seven minutes on the clock fed Aubameyang to curl in the opener, and it looked like complete dominance and a routine victory after a dominant opening to the game.
However, Brighton played a ball over the top, forcing a mistake out of defender Stephan Lichtsteiner that saw Jurgen Locadia round Bernd Leno to level things up after 35 minutes.
Maybe the big takeaway from the game was the lacklustre display from Mesut Ozil who was hauled off at half-time by the manager Unai Emery, raising further questions about the future of the German – with a week to go until the January transfer window opens up.
Another note for Gunners fans to ponder was just how average Stephan Lichtsteiner was made to look by the Brighton attack, and could probably consider himself lucky to have stayed on for the full 90.
Up next for Arsenal on Saturday is a trip to Liverpool at Anfield, who moved clear at the top of the Premier League after another defeat for Manchester City.
