On-loan Real Madrid midfielder Mateo Kovacic has reiterated his happiness at Stamford Bridge but remained coy on the idea of a permanent transfer.
Speaking to Marca about his long-term future during the international break, as reported by the Metro, Kovacic explained that he is not thinking about the summer just yet.
I wanted to be happy and at Chelsea I am. I just wanted to be happy and play matches, feel a responsibility within the team and I’ve found that at Chelsea.
This is not the time to talk about anything other than playing and enjoying. I don’t want to think about what will happen and do want to be happy doing what I like, which is to play football every week.
Kovacic joined Chelsea as part of the deal to take Thibaut Courtois to Real Madrid in the summer and has been a hit since arriving in London.
The Croatian fits nicely into Maurizio Sarri’s midfield and has been competing with Ross Barkley for a place in the starting XI.
However, despite leaving Madrid on loan, he remains highly thought of back in Spain and it has been suggested that there could still be a future for him at the Bernabeu.
It has also been reported that Chelsea are unlikely to fork out the necessary fee to sign him permanently after not including an option to buy in the loan deal.
