With Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho under significant pressure at Old Trafford, former Juventus player Igor Tudor has sent a warning about the Reds’ chances of getting Zinedine Zidane to replace Mourinho.
Tudor played with Zidane at Juventus during the Frenchman’s magical spell with the Old Lady. Zidane left Real Madrid in the summer after three consecutive UEFA Champions League victories with Los Blancos, who he also played for during his career.
Mourinho guided Man United to their worst ever start to a Premier League season since the competition’s advent in 1992 with three losses in the club’s opening seven fixtures. United did bounce back recently against Newcastle United with an epic 3-2 comeback.
The Portuguese manager went into that game with reports suggesting he’d sacked regardless of the result against the Magpies. That didn’t happen, but there is a feeling of inevitability around Mourinho leaving the club in the next year or so.
Zidane has been heavily linked, but Tudor thinks his ex-teammate will go back to Juventus to manage the side after his success at Real Madrid. Italian outlet CalcioMercato describes it as a “warning message” to United.
“Zidane back to Juventus? After winning everything, there is a real possibility that this will happen,” Tudor told La Gazzetta dello Sport.
“Zizou will want to show that he is a great coach even away from Madrid. Juventus could be an important challenge.”
Representatives of Zidane have explained that he doesn’t want to manage in England, but that hasn’t completely stopped speculation. Him taking over from Mourinho does look unlikely.
