Three players Jose Mourinho has to start against Everton

Manchester United will head into this weekend’s Premier League clash with Everton acutely aware of their poor record at home this season.

In almost three months they have only managed two scrappy home wins over Leicester City and Newcastle United. Romelu Lukaku’s last Old Trafford goal came all the way back in March.

Jose Mourinho’s men won this fixture 4-0 last season but having taken just one win from seven games, this clash with Marco Silva’s team promises to be much more difficult.

Here are three players Mourinho needs to start against the Toffees on Sunday afternoon as he looks to improve his side’s awful home record.

Fred

The Brazilian has been hardly used by Mourinho ever since impressing in the 1-1 draw with Wolverhampton Wanderers last month, much to the confusion and frustration of supporters.

His technical quality at close quarters and forward thinking style has been desperately missing fro Man United’s play in recent times. Supporters will want to see Mourinho omit Nemanja Matic, who has played twice in four days and looks tired, and give Fred another chance.

Victor Lindelof

United’s performance against Juventus was weak to say the least but it was Lindelof, more than anyone else, who displayed genuine mettle, putting in a performance full of guts and calm execution.

He looks growingly composed alongside Chris Smalling and Mourinho, given the frail state of his defence, will not want to change that.

Anthony Martial

No attacking player particularly impressed against Juventus but at least Martial, who can often seem aloof on the pitch, was busting a gut to make things happen, driving forward with the ball whenever he got the chance.

And having scored goals in United’s last two Premier League outings against Newcastle and Chelsea, supporters will want to see him unleashed once more.
