Rio Ferdinand has noted that Manchester United’s 0-1 defeat to Juventus in the Champions League was like watching men against boys.
Jose Mourinho’s men were totally dominated in the first period, managing only 30 per cent possession and falling behind to a Paulo Dybala goal.
After the break they played with more spirit but only created one genuine chance – Paul Pogba hitting the post from outside of the box – against a Juventus side which looked comfortable throughout the game.
Speaking on BT Sport after the game, Ferdinand conceded that his former club had been outplayed.

Watching Juventus play, working as one watertight and ruthless footballing unit, felt like watching a different sport from a United point of view. Defensively, offensively, tactically and stylistically, they were manifestly a class above. Every player knew their role. The defence worked perfectly together. The midfield was balanced. Dybala and Cristiano Ronaldo caused problems going forward. It was, as the Italians say, bellissimo.
Temperamentally, they were so far ahead of United – a team without direction, bottle, or even the slightest measure of urgency – that the game felt decided even before Dybala gave them the lead after 15 minutes. Mourinho may have irked some supporters by saying United were miles behind the top European teams after the game, but he was absolutely right.
