Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri has explained why Pedro Rodriguez had to come off in the team’s win against Burnley on Sunday.
The Italian boss was quizzed on the condition of his winger following the Blues’ comprehensive 4-0 win at Turf Moor. Pedro was forced off in the first half and was replaced by Ruben Loftus-Cheek, who went on to score his side’s fourth of the afternoon in stoppage time.
As quoted by Football London, Sarri explained why Pedro could not continue against Burnley. The Blues boss said:
I don’t know exactly. I spoke with the doctor for a few seconds and he said it was a very strong stomachache.
Sarri will be hoping to have Pedro available for selection ahead of Wednesday night’s Carabao Cup fixture against Derby County.
The Spaniard has played an involved role under Sarri following his appointment at the club in the summer and will be keen to quickly recover from what appears to be a stomach problem.
Pedro’s absence did not hinder Chelsea, however, as goals from Alvaro Morata, Ross Barkley, Willian and Loftus-Cheek clinched an important win.
