Manchester United signing Arsenal midfielder Aaron Ramsey is a deal that would “make sense” for both parties, according to former-Liverpool defender Steve Nicol.
Ramsey is out of contract at the end of the season at Arsenal and a number of clubs are being linked to the midfielder, who appears extremely unlikely to pen a new deal at the club.
Reports indicate that Ramsey’s demands will not be met by Arsenal who don’t feel he is of a high enough quality to become one of the best paid players in the Premier League.
Whether United would be willing to pay him similar wages to stars Paul Pogba and Alexis Sanchez is unknown, but Nicol believes the Reds should be looking at Ramsey.
“Yes, I think it would [make sense],” Nicol said.
“Right now, for me, Manchester United get no goalscoring threat from the middle of the park whatsoever.
“If there’s one thing you can say about Ramsey, he gives you that.
“So I think this would make sense for both him and for Manchester United.”
Pogba has scored four goals from midfield this season. He’s also hit 13 league strikes since arriving in the Premier League whereas Ramsey has scored only nine in the same time.
So it’s a bit of a myth that United have no goalscoring midfielders. However, Ramsey could be a good deal at a cut price in January or for free in the summer.
United would face stiff competition for the Welshman, though, who has drawn interest from Serie A side Juventus, now renowned for their ability to bring in players on free transfers.
Liverpool’s Emre Can and Italian defender Leonardo Bonucci both arrived at the Allianz Stadium for free last summer.
