Paul Pogba has admitted he was ‘lucky’ to score against Everton in Manchester United’s 2-1 win at the weekend.
The Frenchman saw a penalty saved by England number one Jordan Pickford in the Everton goal but managed to pounce quickly on the rebound and put Man United in front in the first half.
Anthony Martial scored after the break with a powerful curler into the bottom corner to ensure the United victory, but Pogba conceded that his rebound goal was fortunate.
“I was lucky with the penalty,” Pogba admitted in a post-match interview with Sky Sports on Sunday afternoon.
“But most important is the goal went in it was good for us and for me and we had other chances but most important was the win.”
Pogba has now scored more goals and assisted more times than any other central midfielder in the Premier League this season, having hit the back of the net three times and set up a teammate on a further three occasions.
He’s also the only player during the Jose Mourinho-era at Old Trafford to have scored 20 or more goals and assisted 20 or more goals.
Even an underperforming, or ‘lucky’, Pogba is better than United’s other players. Consistency is key now, both within games and over the course of the season.
