Chelsea set for huge cash windfall following court hearing

Former Chelsea striker Adrian Mutu has been ordered to pay the club £15.2 million in compensation.

BBC Sport report that the former striker has lost his appeal against a failed drugs test that saw him sacked by the Blues.

Mutu tested positive for cocaine and was given a seven-month ban from the game.

In a case that has been running for many years, the Court of Arbitration for Sport ordered the Romanian to pay the club in compensation, a decision that the striker appealed.

The report claims that Chelsea are still seeking payment for the damages they are owed from the player.

The fee is a loss of earnings that reflects the remaining years of Mutu’s original contract at Stamford Bridge.

Mutu joined Chelsea in a big-money deal worth just short of £16 million from Parma back in 2003.

After arriving with plenty of promise, things quickly went downhill for the striker and he left the club in October 2004.
