Arsenal legend Ian Wright has insisted that Arsenal should retain the services of Danny Welbeck whose contract expires next summer (via The Mirror).
Arsenal may have had one contract dispute seemingly settled in recent weeks but it seems as if another one is just around the corner.
Danny Welbeck’s current deal at the club is set to expire at the end of the season but has performed well in recent weeks.
When asked if Welbeck deserves a new deal, Arsenal legend Ian Wright claimed: “Yes, I certainly do.
“Where he is right now, behind Lacazette and Aubameyang, coming off the bench with his experience.
“And the fact that he is capable of scoring goals against all types of opposition. He’s someone that I think Arsenal should definitely try to sign up for the long term. He’s valuable to Arsenal.
“I think he’s got eight to 10 goals in him over the course of a season. In the current climate, I don’t think Arsenal can afford to let someone like that go.”
It’s true that Danny Welbeck possesses quality. The forward has shown that in the last few weeks but it is difficult for him to compete with the likes of Aubameyang and Lacazette. If he is willing to play backup to the starters then there is no reason why he shouldn’t remain at Arsenal.
