Barcelona believe they have an increased chance of signing Paul Pogba from Manchester United during the January transfer window, according to reports.
The Catalan giants have earmarked Pogba as a target for some time and Mino Raiola, the player’s agent, recently refused to rule out the prospect of his client joining Barcelona in the future.
Pogba’s relationship with Jose Mourinho, as seen with the video of their training ground dispute on Wednesday, has been fractured since January and is becoming almost untenable.
According to the Independent‘s Miguel Delaney, Barcelona are well aware of Pogba’s situation at Old Trafford and consider the prospect of a January move to be possible.
Barcelona resolved in the summer to adopt a medium-term strategy to sign Pogba – in similar fashion to how they signed Philipe Coutinho from Liverpool – but the recent change in tone from the midfielder will be encouraging. The 25-year-old was initially open to staying at Old Trafford should Mourinho lose his job; he is now determined to leave for La Liga regardless of what happens with the manager.
And United’s stance has changed too: they view Pogba as a highly valuable asset they could profit from. However, there are doubts about whether Barcelona, never too far from a financial fiasco, are able to put together an adequate sum half-way through the season.
