Former Manchester United right-back Rafael was unable to conceal his delight after winning at the Ethiad with Lyon on Wednesday night.
The Brazilian joined Man United in 2008 and made 169 appearances before leaving in 2014, cementing himself as a fan favourite with his tenacious performances at right-back.
He was lack in Manchester with Lyon as Bruno Genesio’s side blitzed Manchester City in the first half to win the game 2-1, consigning Pep Guardiola to four European defeats in a row.
Speaking after the game, Rafael noted that, as a United fan, winning at the Ethiad – where he has never lost – was a wonderful experience.

The defender was last to leave the Ethiad pitch on Wednesday night. In typical Brazilian fashion, he adores the game on a very pure level, taking in the emotions of the occasion and playing with heart and skill.
Rafael, born in Rio de Janeiro, will always be an adopted Mancunian son. He didn’t even need to play ‘well’ every game: his raw energy and desire was enough to win the hearts of supporters.
And he certainly provided plenty of that against Man City, laying down a performance which makes you sad to think Louis van Gaal dispensed with him four years ago.
