Real Madrid held January talks to sign Chelsea target

Roma striker Edin Dzeko was heavily linked with a move to Chelsea during the January transfer window, but it has also been revealed he held talks with Real Madrid.

Football Espana, who cite claims made by Marca, reports that the La Liga giants were in the running to sign the Bosnian, but like Chelsea, struggled in convincing him to leave the Giallorossi.

Both Chelsea and Antonio Conte were very keen to bring the player to Stamford Bridge back in January.

The Blues were in the market for another striker with Alvaro Morata struggling to find the back of the net.

Dzeko emerged as one of Europe’s top goalscorers in recent seasons at Roma and his form was not going unnoticed.

However, the striker was keen to stay in Rome, despite the Serie A side appearing open to a deal.

Chelsea instead pursued a deal to sign Olivier Giroud from Arsenal, with the Frenchman joining late in the January window.
