Premier League legend Alan Shearer has backed Jose Mourinho to be sacked as Manchester United manager soon.
The former-Blackburn Rovers and Newcastle United striker, the highest goalscorer ever in the Premier League, believes Mourinho has created an unsalvageable situation for himself at Man United.
Mourinho’s United have lost three of their opening seven fixtures of the league season, making it their worst start to a campaign since the advent of the competition in 1992. Only David Moyes’ United have begun a season as badly as this current United side, and the Scot was sacked after eight months of the season, which was his first at the club.
Shearer thinks Mourinho will be on his way out of Old Trafford soon as one crisis is followed by another and another at United.
“I think Mourinho will lose his job. I can’t see him turning it around,” Shearer said, according to the Manchester Evening News.
“They were hopeless from start to finish. Too slow, lethargic and very weak.”
The BBC Sport pundit was speaking after United’s 3-1 loss to West Ham at the London Stadium. Mourinho was helpless on the touchline, as he was in defeats to Brighton & Hove Albion, Tottenham Hotspur and Derby County.
Many think Mourinho has lost his touch. The ‘Special One’ is said to no longer be ‘special’. That much is now clear. But whether no-longer-special-Mourinho can still lead United is the question.
Executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward will have to make that decision soon if this form carries on. United finished 19 points behind rivals and champions Manchester City last season. Going at their respective current rates, that gap would be recreated by as soon as December 4th this season.
