Pogba’s performance against Young Boys showed his true personality, claims Mourinho

Jose Mourinho has revealed he was impressed by the confidence of Paul Pogba in Manchester United’s comfortable 3-0 victory against Young Boys.

The French midfielder netted twice in Wednesday night’s win, which was a fantastic start for the Reds in their UEFA Champions League campaign for the 2018/19 season.

In a tough group, it was important to get off to a good start, and Pogba was the key man to ensure that happened, hitting the back of the net twice in the first half. One was a superbly struck side-foot from just outside the penalty area, and the other was a penalty.

“He felt tired in the last part of the game, but it was a good performance,” Mourinho said to BT Sport.

“[Pogba was] solid, class and gave the team the pace we needed at times. He controlled the tempo and o course it was a very good goal.”

Having missed from the penalty spot against Burnley a couple of weeks ago, Mourinho was impressed by Pogba’s willingness to take another.

“Yeah, the first goal was a great goal, and then the second I like, I like the player to have the courage to take a penalty after one that he missed, I like that,“ Mourinho said to MUTV.

“He missed against Burnley, the next penalty the team has, he is there to take it.

“The penalty showed his personality as when you miss one you normally have outs, but there were no outs from him.”

It was a very good display from Pogba, who was also one of United’s better players in the weekend’s 2-1 victory against Watford.

United fans will be hoping that Pogba can put in another good performance against Wolves at the weekend. Since he re-joined from Juventus in 2016, there have all been all too many brilliant shows of his world-class quality followed by dreadful matches where he has been poor.

All that is asked for from Pogba this season is consistency. His last two games, both good, can hopefully be the start of that.
