Manchester United will demand a fee in excess of £200m from any clubs interested in signing Paul Pogba this summer, according to reports.
The Frenchman’s relationship with Jose Mourinho has become seemingly untenable after he was stripped of the vice-captaincy in response to his comments in the wake of Man United’s 1-1 draw with Wolves over the weekend.
James Ducker, a reliable journalist from the Telegraph, confirmed this morning that Pogba had told Mourinho he wanted to leave, with his agent Mino Raiola refusing to rule out the prospect of his client joining Barcelona.
But according to the Mirror‘s David McDonnell, United will only consider letting Pogba leave if a club comes in with a bid exceeding £200m, which would make him the second most expensive player in history.
Barcelona expressed keen interest in Pogba over the summer and will, no doubt, find recent developments regarding his situation at Old Trafford extremely encouraging. It certainly feels as if Pogba and Mourinho’s relationship has become untenable.
Losing Pogba would constitute losing the nucleus of this team – the Queen Bee, if you like – and therefore necessitate an overhaul of personnel and style. The club is right to demand such an enormous fee.
