Jamie Redknapp believes Jose Mourinho is close to losing the Manchester United dressing room because of recent events.
The Portuguese has recently removed midfielder Paul Pogba as the vice-captain of the club after comments from the Frenchman suggesting that Man United should “attack, attack, attack” at Old Trafford.
Those kind of inflammatory comments are never a sign of a content dressing room. Pogba and Mourinho have seemingly been having a feud for some time now, and with a number of other big egos in the squad, things could get out of hand quickly at United.
Mourinho denied on Tuesday night that there had been any “fall out” between him and Pogba because of the vice-captaincy decision.
“There’s been an almighty fallout,” Redknapp told Sky Sports after United’s defeat to Derby County on penalties in the League Cup third round on Tuesday night.
“That’s a kick in the teeth if you tell someone they are the vice-captain and then you take it off him. You don’t need me to say it. There’s a huge rift between the two of them.”
While Redknapp nor most other people don’t actually know whether there is a rift between the pair, it seems likely given their relationship over the last season.
“You can sack Jose Mourinho, but you can’t sack Paul Pogba. What are you going to do with him?” Redknapp questioned.
“I’ve been in dressing rooms where the manager has lost the players and all you get is cliques. Players will get into their corners.
“That’s how I see this Manchester United dressing room. I can visualise it now. There’s so many unhappy people.”
It’s quite possible that United’s dressing room is in disarray. Yet most of the comments coming out of the United squad speak positively about the dressing room atmosphere, even if there are certain rifts.
