Andreas Pereira has hit out at media reports that the Manchester United squad are not united together behind manager Jose Mourinho.
The Brazilian midfielder was dropped from the matchday squad for Man United’s comfortable 2-0 away victory against Burnley at Turf Moor.
Having had an exciting pre-season in which he performed well and was praised by Mourinho, Pereira’s chance in a midfield three for United now looks to have passed, at least temporarily.
However, Pereira was adamant in the face of questions about United’s squad that they are calm and there are no rifts between players, or between certain players and the manager.
“No, there are a lot of things out the press saying that things are not going well,” Pereira told reporters while on international duty with Brazil.
“But we in the dressing room at Manchester United are all calm, everything is good.
“The group is a great group, and we’re always focused.”
The 22-year-old will be hoping to have a good international break with Brazil, especially given there is pressure on him to perform after he turned down the chance to play for Belgium, the country of his birth, in order to represent his father’s nation.
Pereira needs to regain the faith and trust of Mourinho after a poor showing against Tottenham Hotspur as United were thrashed 3-0 at Old Trafford.
Marouane Fellaini and Nemanja Matic both performed well at Burnley, and Pereira must rely on rotation in midfield to get back into Mourinho’s starting thoughts.
