Manchester United legend Eric Cantona has thrown his hat in the ring for the position of manager should they ever need him.
The Frenchman has been rather distant from football ever since retiring but it seems he still has a huge passion for it.
Cantona isn’t the only former United player who is gunning for the managerial position with the likes of Ryan Giggs and Michael Carrick also said to be keen.
The Welshman is busy getting experience by leading his nation while the Englishman is working as a part of Jose Mourinho’s backroom staff.
The former striker though hasn’t been active and would be a surprise appointment for the Red Devils’ job if it ever happened.
According to Manchester Evening News, Eric said to the Mail on Sunday: “I would like to coach and if they called me I would go. I would enjoy it. They know where I am. Then we would play creative football again.
“It would be great for the fans, like it was with Alex Ferguson – he allowed players to be creative, treated them as individuals. All felt loved. He was always praising. A good man, a good leader.”
Still, successful managers have come about without any previous experience as well so perhaps Cantona does have a chance.
At the moment though Mourinho is still the Manchester United manager and even if he were sacked there’s a different Frenchman who’s favourite for the job.
Zinedine Zidane is said to be eagerly waiting on the sidelines in case the situation at Old Trafford changes with reports even claiming he already has a transfer wishlist prepared.
