Man United fans react to Martial's performance vs Young Boys

There’s no doubt Manchester United fans were encouraged by what they saw from Anthony Martial in his performance vs Young Boys.

Jose Mourinho’s men picked up all three points in their first Champions League fixture of the season with the Frenchman getting his name on the scoresheet.

Martial had initially started the game rather slowly but improved tremendously after half-time, converting from an excellent pass from Paul Pogba.

The winger was handed his first start in quite some time and it’s safe to say there was plenty of pressure on his shoulders to deliver.

However, Anthony will have to continue to keep up the good performances if he wants to keep his spot in the starting XI.

Martial putting pressure on Alexis. He started the game slowly but grew in confidence especially in the second half & got his goal albeit via a deflection. Will have done him good to play the whole game & get a goal. I’d like to see Martial given a run with Sanchez on the right.

A very comfortable 3-0 win for Manchester United. Great start from United in their opening Champions League game. Valencia next is a real test, but positive signs. Great to see Martial in glowing form. Shaw-Dalot have added so much already.

Alexis Sanchez is the player who has often featured from the left-hand side and it will take a while before he’s dropped.

Fans only need to reference Luke Shaw and Ashley Young‘s situation to see how Mourinho works.

The Portuguese manager refuses to drop one of his starters for a bench player simply based on one performance.

It took Shaw a run of consistently good games before he could oust Young from the left-back position and Martial must take inspiration from that.
