Jose Mourinho has confirmed that Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba will play in Saturday’s match against West Ham United.
Huge controversy and debate has surrounded Pogba and Mourinho’s relationship after the vice-captaincy was removed from Pogba earlier this week.
The Frenchman and Mourinho were then caught having a far from friendly exchange in Man United’s open training session on Wednesday.
However, Mourinho has insisted there was no confrontation as the media have reported it, and hailed Pogba’s efforts in training this week.
“Nobody trained better than Paul on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Tomorrow he plays,” Mourinho revealed.
“I don’t care about the cameras. What confrontation? There was no confrontation.
“The team needs good players, players with personality to play, [which] he has.”
It’s hugely positive to hear Mourinho speaking in such a manner about Pogba. He did also warn the player that, “no player is bigger than Manchester United”.
The debate will not end here, but it’s certainly a positive statement from Mourinho. The pair have to try and work out their differences if United are to have any kind of success this season.
A report on Friday morning revealed that Pogba’s agent Mino Raiola will meet with United officials in November and ask whether Pogba will be allowed to leave the club in January or in the summer transfer window.
