Following a summer of intense criticism from back home, De Gea put in a performance which reminded everybody of exactly why he is regarded as the best keeper in the world.
His save from Rashford’s close range header was nothing short of phenomenal, reminiscent of the save he made from Luis Muriel at Sevilla in February, and he kept England out in the second period with a series of smart stops. There was some controversy at the end, with Danny Welbeck scoring in injury time after barging the ball out of De Gea’s hands, only for the referee to blow for a foul.
