Manchester United are still keeping an eye on the situation of Mexico and PSV Eindhoven winger Hirving Lozano, according to reports from Spain.
The 23-year-old claimed 17 goals from out wide for the Dutch side last season and dazzled for Mexico in Russia, scoring a famous winning goal against Germany.
Jose Mourinho, who has wanted a winger since last summer when he unsuccessfully pursued Ivan Perisic, kept tabs on him among other wide players over the transfer window.
According to Spanish media outlet AS, Man United are among a series of clubs – such as Barcelona, Atletico Madrid and Borussia Dortmund – keen on monitoring him closely this season.
United’s lack of a genuine wide player who can attack full-backs from the touchline has been a problem for some time. Such a role is becoming obsolete at a time when wing-backs are used instead, with greater emphasis on building down the middle, but Mexico, as a counter-attacking team, demonstrated its handiness when used well.
Lozano fits the Mourinho profile: direct, powerful, ruthlessly energetic and with plenty of space to improve. You sense Lozano is one of those players who won’t be dwelling in the Eredivisie for much longer.
