France manager Didier Deschamps has once again supported his player Paul Pogba in the ongoing feud with Jose Mourinho and Manchester United.
The midfielder and the Portuguese boss have continued to butt heads since the start of the season in particular with it seemingly affecting the team’s performances.
United have just 10 points out of a possible 21 so far having only played one difficult opponent on paper in Tottenham.
Deschamps believes Pogba isn’t to blame for the team’s overall performances and that the collective aren’t playing well either.
The former Juventus man was part of the team that lost 3-1 to West Ham on Saturday and was hauled off in favour of Fred in the second half.
According to the Daily Mail, Didier said to the Observer: “For Paul it depends not only on him but also the team he is in, the collective way of playing.
“It is not a case of one player who makes the team win.”
It’s no surprise that Deschamps was going to protect one of his players over Mourinho but it doesn’t exactly help relationships.
Manchester United may be tempted to think twice in regards to how they deal with the France backroom staff in the future.
It’s unlikely anything as drastic as holding Pogba back from international duty will happen but perhaps they can prefer to deal with injuries themselves rather than trust the international set-up.
Nonetheless, Didier didn’t need to stoke the fire even further, particularly since he already protected Paul earlier this season.
