Chelsea have sent scouts out to monitor Gelson Martins’ progress at Atletico Madrid in recent times, according to the Daily Star.
The Blues had reportedly kept a close eye on the performances of the Portugal international last season, as he impressed at Sporting CP. Following his move to Atletico in the summer, it seems Chelsea’s interest still exists.
Martins was the subject of plenty of interest from the Premier League during the summer transfer window, with Arsenal believed to have been extremely keen on a deal.
However, Atletico beat the Gunners to the signing of the winger, who was a part of Portugal’s 23-man squad at the World Cup.
Martins has developed a reputation for being one of Europe’s trickiest wingers, impressing out on the right-hand side with some exciting displays for club and country.
This appears to have piqued the interest of Chelsea, as they continue to monitor long-term transfer targets in the early stages of the 2018/19 campaign.
