Manchester United midfielder Ander Herrera is drawing interest from Italian side AC Milan.
The Serie A team wish to make Herrera a major signing in the January transfer window.
Herrera’s contract at Man United expires at the end of the season, although there is no suggestion that Herrera wishes to leave Old Trafford in the near future.
Calciomercato, an Italian outlet, suggest that Milan want to take advantage of Herrera’s contract situation.
Although Herrera hasn’t pushed for a move away from United, there is also no indication that United have prepared a contract extension for the Spaniard.
The club’s policy over the last few years, although they have made some exceptions, has been to offer players in or nearing their 30s contract extensions of only one-year maximum.
Manager Jose Mourinho clearly trusts Herrera, who has carried out key jobs for the Portuguese. Against Tottenham Hotspur, Mourinho deployed midfielder Herrera in a back three.
Herrera has previously told the Guardian that he wants “to be here next season and unless the club sack me, I will be here in pre-season and fight to keep adding games to my total.”
However, his importance to Mourinho has clearly decreased with various signings over the last couple of seasons. He made only 13 starts in the league last year.
