Barcelona defender and Manchester United target Yerry Mina has refused to rule out the prospect of a move to Old Trafford this month.
Jose Mourinho has set his sights on securing another central defender before the window closes, with Toby Alderweireld marked out as the club’s primary target.
Mina, however, has emerged as an alternative option following a superb World Cup with Croatia during which he scored three goals.
Speaking earlier this week, Mina was notably coy about where he would be playing next season.
“In terms of my future, I have no idea but I’m calm about it,” he said. “I’m 23 years old and have a lot of football left to play.”
It is worth noting that Mina, despite his World Cup heroics, is not viewed as an important player by Barcelona boss Ernesto Valverde, who had hardly any say over his transfer to the Nou Camp in January.
United will need to fight tooth and nail to get either Alderweireld or Harry Maguire, and that may still not be enough. Mina, on the other hand, might be a different prospect: Barcelona have signed another defender in Clement Lenglet this summer and could be open to letting a very talented – if slightly mercurial – defender move to Old Trafford.
