Manchester United star Paul Pogba has reacted to being handed the captain’s armband against Leicester City last night.
The Frenchman lead Jose Mourinho’s side out for their first Premier League fixture of the season at Old Trafford.
United edged the match in a 2-1 win to get things going on the right foot and it was Pogba who grabbed the first goal of the match.
Luke Shaw grabbed what eventually proved to be the winner with Jamie Vardy getting his name on the scoresheet in an effort to make things awkward at the end.
Mourinho was certainly pleased with his captain’s performance, calling the midfielder a ‘monster’ for playing for longer than necessary.
According to the club’s official website, Paul said: “It’s always a pleasure for me, an honour to wear this armband. A lot of big players for story of the club [have had it].
“It’s something great. To win today was most important. I scored a penalty, I’m very happy and really happy we started with a win.”
Pogba was hardly match-fit but made himself available for the match and so Jose trusted him to start as well as to deliver the performance.
It’s fair to say the former Juventus man repaid the faith and fans will be eager to see him in action for them once again.
Paul only returned to the Red Devils on Monday following his exploits with France at the World Cup, meaning he had a handful of training sessions under his belt before starting vs the Foxes.
He eventually had to be substituted off as it was clear he was running out of fuel but he was still named man of the match.
