Ander Herrera has revealed what Jose Mourinho is really like behind closed doors following a media storm over the Manchester United manager’s negativity throughout pre-season.
Many supporters, pundits and journalists are tipping Mourinho to go through his classic case of third season syndrome due to his behaviour in press conferences whilst on tour in the United States.
Mourinho has regularly publicised his frustration that so many of his key stars are absent from the club’s pre-season preparations due to their World Cup exploits, as well as the growing injury list containing senior players.
Speaking ahead of United’s final match in the USA against Real Madrid, Herrera made it clear that Mourinho’s attitude towards his players raises no complaints, regardless of what is said in the media.
The 28-year-old explained: “I haven’t watched the manager’s media stuff, I never do. I cannot talk about how he is with you guys, because I never see that.
“I can say that with us he is very positive, he wants us to fight for the titles, he wants us to perform to our best, he wants us to work as hard as possible.”
Mourinho is said to still want a new central defender and right winger before the summer transfer window slams shut next Thursday, but may have to settle for just one more arrival.
He has a reason to be positive upon United’s return to England though, Phil Jones, Victor Lindelof, Marcus Rashford and Romelu Lukaku have all cut their holidays short to help the team avoid a slow start to the new season.
