Defoe sends a message to Pogba following Brighton nightmare

Bournemouth star Jermaine Defoe has claimed Manchester United’s Paul Pogba knows he needs to do more in terms of performances.

The Frenchman starred in the club’s win against Leicester in the first Premier League fixture of the season but wasn’t as good in the loss to Brighton.

United couldn’t string together two consecutive wins and endured a shock defeat to the home side that saw questions rise over Jose Mourinho’s position at the club.

Pogba wasn’t the worst man on the pitch but with the captain’s armband on he couldn’t help inspire his side to a win.

The former Juventus man himself admitted his attitude wasn’t good enough for the fixture, publicly criticising his own performance.

According to Manchester Evening News, Jermain said to Goals: “It’s funny, I spoke to Paul when they came down to Bournemouth.

“He knows he needs to do more, he said to me ‘I want to do more, it’s not as easy as people think’. There’s times where he struggled with his fitness and he’s played in games not 100 per cent fit.

“But I think he’s one of those characters where he knows he needs to do well, he’s got the right attitude.”

United legend Paul Scholes accused Paul of not having the ability to captain the side as well as failing to show any consistency.

Jermain though has defended the midfielder, pointing to the injury he suffered as a possible cause and shutting down claims he has a poor attitude.

Following Pogba’s outstanding form in the World Cup for France, he had the perfect opportunity to carry that momentum on with the Red Devils.

Unfortunately the early signs are that he will struggle for form but time will tell how well he can do this season.
