Paul Pogba claimed he felt ‘blessed’ as he made a goalscoring return from injury for Manchester United on Saturday evening.
The Frenchman started and starred in Man United’s 4-1 dismantling of Rafa Benitez’s Newcastle United. It was his first appearance for the Reds since he suffered a hamstring injury while captaining the side in the UEFA Champions League against FC Basel back in mid-September.
Pogba shone in midfield, looking like he was in a rhythm, not just making a return from a long-term lay-off.
Speaking to MUTV after the game at Old Trafford, Pogba said: “To come back, to play again, to see Old Trafford, to see the fans again, to score at Old Trafford on my comeback, I feel blessed.
“But we had to win – that was the most important thing.”
Pogba was vital in United winning, the driving force behind everything good about Jose Mourinho’s side before he left the pitch to a standing ovation after 70 minutes.
He told MUTV that recovery is different in the Premier League.
“Most of last season I had injuries but small ones. You just have to recover well because the Premier League is different to Italy – it’s more intense and you just have to think about recovery, then you have more games. Otherwise, I just feel good, just to come back.
“I’ve trained very hard to come back fit,” Pogba continued. “The season is really long so we have to be fit – not only me but all the players. To win the league we need all our players. When you have one injured here, one injured there, it doesn’t help. It’s always better to have a full team.”
