Manchester United legend Paul Scholes believes things would be different at his former club if Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola was manager instead of Jose Mourinho.
At one point in history it did very much look as though the Spaniard would be the one at Old Trafford instead as he was spotted dining with Sir Alex Ferguson.
City though were the ones who snapped him up following his spell with Bayern and it was even claimed by some sections of the media United only hired Mourinho to counter Guardiola.
The two shared a fierce rivalry during their simultaneous time at Real Madrid and Barcelona respectively and it was widely believed the Portuguese was the only manager on the planet capable of stopping the Citizen’s boss.
Either way, it’s clear to see which coach Scholes prefers and it’s not the first time he’s put Jose down whilst praising Pep at the time.
According to Manchester Evening News, Paul said to beIN Sports: “[Mourinho] doesn’t look happy to me. As a football person, if you’re a coach and you seem your team playing – he may be happy.
“It’s a team who grind out results rather than really impress you – and that’s probably what he is happy with, that’s where he has been at his best all over the years.
“If Guardiola was manager of Manchester United he would hate what he was seeing – and it would be different. But, the most important thing to him is results, he will be judged on that.”
One thing that can’t be argued is there’s certainly pressure on both managers to deliver this season with Mourinho tasked with stealing the crown and Guardiola with creating a dynasty.
Manchester City very much want to become serial Premier League winners but perhaps the more important thing on their radar is the Champions League trophy.
