The agent of Napoli defender Elseid Hysaj has confirmed that Maurizio Sarri wanted to bring ‘three or four’ players with him to Stamford Bridge.
Speaking to Radio Kiss Kiss Napoli, as cited on TEAMtalk, Mario Giuffredi discussed the defender’s future after a summer of speculation.
Let’s just say that he could have followed Sarri. De Laurentiis admitted that the Coach wanted to take three or four players to Chelsea and it’s true.
A renewal? I’ll be in Dimaro [the pre-season training camp] and we’ll talk about that, we’ll see if the will is there on both sides.
Hysaj was one of several players to be linked with a move to Stamford Bridge over the summer.
Once it became clear that Sarri would be taking over at the club, the likes of Dries Mertens, Raul Albiol, Kalidou Koulibaly, Jose Callejon and Hysaj were all linked with moves to Chelsea.
In the end, it was Italian midfielder Jorginho, despite looking set to sign for Manchester City, who followed Sarri to London.
Reports have suggested that a ‘gentleman’s agreement’ was put in place to stop Sarri from raiding his former side during the summer transfer window.
