Manchester United are considering a £12m bid for Stoke City winger and Liverpool target Xherdan Shaqiri, according to reports.
Jose Mourinho is on the lookout for reinforcements on the right hand side after failing to decide on a specific player for the position last season.
Willian has emerged as a main target for the Portuguese, although Chelsea will only sell if they get Anthony Martial in return, while Gareth Bale is also a target.
And according to the Sun‘s Dan King, Man United will rival Liverpool in their pursuit of the Swiss winger, who Mourinho has growingly admired during the World Cup.
The worrying thing is that Shaqiri does seem like a typically Mourinho-esque signing: experienced in the Premier League, direct in his approach, decent in a few World Cup games. The 55-year-old is never too extravagant in his search for signings, mainly moving for players he has worked with or seen at close quarters.
But this would not be a sensible investment. United, first and foremost, need to think about reinforcing other positions before worrying about a right sided winger. Secondly, and most importantly, Shaqiri drove Stoke fans mad with his indecision in the final third and poor work rate last season. The chances of him impressing Old Trafford are very slim indeed.
