Man United youngster hails Michael Carrick's influence in pre-season

Andreas Pereira has made note of Michael Carrick‘s positive influence on his impressive start to Manchester United’s pre-season tour of the United States.

Carrick assumed a coaching role towards the end of last season and has earned praise from teammates for his influence in the dressing room – most notably at half time against Manchester City in April.

The Brazilian has grabbed the attention of supporters with composed, positive displays in the No.6 role in draws with Club America and San Jose Earthquakes.

Speaking on MUTV after the game, Pereira spoke of the positive influence Carrick has had on him during training over pre-season.

“Everyone is helping me a lot, including the manager, by telling me what to do,” he said. “Michael Carrick is also helping me in every training session and it is very important.”

Rui Faria, Mourinho’s former assistant, was often viewed as the good cop persona in contrast with the manager’s gloominess in the dressing room. His departure has left a void.

It has also provided a massive opportunity for Carrick, who is expected to step into that role. There isn’t one player who doesn’t respect and admire him – in a personal as well as professional capacity. More importantly, Carrick understands the psychology of these players, how they best function, and what small changes they can make to their game to promote a considerable improvement.

Paul Pogba spoke effusively of Carrick in the same way back in April. Pereira’s insightful midfield displays in pre-season show the Englishman has spent plenty of time with him. He is a player with undoubted quality and Carrick knows that. You can only hope Mourinho, ahead of the new campaign, recognises it too.
