Romelu Lukaku has leaped to the defence of fellow forward Neymar, who has been the subject of mass criticism throughout the 2018 World Cup in Russia.
The 26-year-old impressed for Brazil throughout the tournament, scoring and assisting two, before exiting to Belgium in the quarter-finals following a 2-1 defeat on Friday night.
Despite Neymar’s indisputable class, he has been caught out trying to cheat by diving in attempt to win free-kicks and penalties – and not for the first time.
Lukaku has stood up for the Paris Saint-Germain forward though, reminding the public of Neymar’s quality amidst the negative attention he has been surrounded by over the past couple of weeks.
Before Belgium’s victory which saw them progress to the semi-finals against France, he said: “Neymar is not an actor. He is one of the best players in the world. I will play against him for the second time and I am looking forward.”
An unbelievable report ahead of the quarter-final clash in Kazan revealed that Neymar has spent 14 minutes on the floor during this year’s World Cup finals, which certainly didn’t help his reputation.
Manchester United’s no. 9 has built a humble reputation whilst continuously performing on the pitch this summer and it’s filling supporters with excitement in regards to what he can do at Man United throughout the 2018-19 season.
