Manchester United vice chairman Ed Woodward and Jose Mourinho will hold discussions this week regarding the future of Anthony Martial, according to reports.
The Frenchman’s agent indicated in June that his client, following a frustrating five months under Mourinho, wanted to leave the club.
Mourinho was decidedly spiky when asked about Philipe Lamboley’s comments following Man United’s 0-0 draw with San Jose Earthquakes in Santa Clara, making a point of how “you don’t always get in life what you want.”
And according to ESPN’s Rob Dawson, Mourinho and Woodward, who is in the United States, will meet this week for crunch talks over Martial.
The 55-year-old is happy to let Martial leave if the Frenchman asks for a move away. He does not want to work with a player who doesn’t want to be at the club, despite his strangely ominous comments last night. Woodward, on the other hand, is adamant he wants to keep the 22-year-old, who supporters value highly as a potential world beater.
Bayern Munich, Juventus and Chelsea are among the interested parties, although United will not allow for Martial to join a fellow rival, nor will they let Martial leave for cheap. Reports have suggested his asking price lies at around £90m.
