Manchester United are reportedly not looking to offload midfielder Paul Pogba this summer amidst speculation of a fall-out with manager Jose Mourinho.
Mourinho brought Pogba back to Man United for a then-world record £89m in 2016 after a successful four-year stint at Juventus but the Frenchman has failed to live up to his price tag across the two seasons since.
The 25-year-old’s inconsistent form has resulted in public criticism from Mourinho, who brought him off the pitch and dropped him for young talent Scott McTominay in a few notable games across the campaign.
His manager’s treatment has led to rumours that Pogba isn’t entirely happy at United because of a rift between the two, but if reliable reports are to be believed, Pogba won’t be going anywhere this summer.
Sky Sport journalist Fabrizio Romano, usually spot on with United news, has confirmed that the club, nor Mourinho, want to let Pogba leave ahead of the 2018-19 season.
This sets up the exciting prospect of a midfield three consisting of Pogba, Nemanja Matic and incoming Brazilian Fred, who is expected to be announced as United’s first summer signing on Tuesday.
Mourinho is thought to be interested in signing another midfielder during the close season, so the added competition for a place and a solid World Cup performance could prompt an improvement from Pogba once August rolls around.
