Brazilian midfielder Fred is reportedly expected to complete his move from Shakhtar Donetsk to Manchester United this week.
Man United announced they had agreed a fee with the Ukrainian champions, thought to be in excess of £50m, last Monday but there was no pictures or videos of Fred in the shirt of signing the contract.
According to Sky Sports News, sources close to the parties involved have told them that there has been no problems with his work permit application and the transfer should go through in the next seven days.
It promises to be a big week for Fred, full name Frederico Rodrigues de Paula Santos, as Brazil kick-off their 2018 World Cup campaign against Switzerland on Sunday night.
The 25-year-old is part of Tite’s 23-man squad but isn’t considered as a starter – with Fernandinho, Paulinho, Casemiro and Philippe Coutinho all competing for a place in midfield.
Days after his impending move to Old Trafford was announced, Fred suffered ‘ankle trauma’ following a crunching tackle from team-mate Casemiro in Brazil training and there were fears he would miss the World Cup.
He looks set to play a part in major tournament though and United fans will be hoping to get a first glimpse of the club’s newest midfielder over the summer before he joins the pre-season tour of the United States.
