Gary Neville gives honest opinion on Gareth Bale to Manchester United

Gary Neville has given Real Madrid forward Gareth Bale’s potential transfer to Manchester United his seal of approval amid what could be the saga of the summer.

Bale’s future at Real is in doubt after a strained relationship with manager Zinedine Zidane saw him fall down the pecking order in the 2017-18 season and prompted reports that he is ready for a new challenge.

Zidane’s shock departure could change the Welshman’s stance, but after winning four Champions Leagues in five years since arriving at the Santiago Bernabeu, a Premier League return could be deemed tempting.

Speaking on BBC Radio Manchester, Man United great Neville explained that he was all for the move if Bale was genuinely interested in playing for the club next season.

“I’ve got a lot of admiration for him as a player. I’d like to see Messi play for United or Ronaldo or Neymar or all these players, but the reality is they’ve got to want to come to the club.

“That’s the first question that needs to be asked. If he wants to come to United then absolutely, yes, because he’s a fantastic player and he is a game changer.

“For me, every top club is looking for that player who is the difference, who can turn the big games.”

The 28-year-old would be a great signing to balance United’s attack, which hasn’t featured a natural right winger for years, but may not happen now that there will be a new boss in the dugout come August.

Bale fueled speculation that he was ready to leave Spain immediately after scoring twice off the bench against Liverpool in the Champions League Final to win 3-1 and claim a third consecutive crown last Saturday.

He explained that he would “sit down and speak” with his agent considering he has a free summer due to Wales’ absence at the World Cup in Russia, but United’s interest is certainly firm so we’ll just have to wait and see if any developments pop up over the coming months, weeks or days.
