Anthony Martial‘s cousin has confirmed that the Frenchman has missed Manchester United’s clash with Watford due to a “little leg discomfort”.
Jose Mourinho confirmed on Thursday night that Martial, whose name continues to be linked with a series of other clubs, would start the final Premier League game of the season.
The winger arrived at Old Trafford at 12PM but was then seen driving away, prompting suggestions of a row with Mourinho, who has largely kept him on the periphery during the second half of the campaign.
But Martial’s cousin has confirmed on social media that his absence from the starting XI was down to a leg problem.

This whole scenario once again smells of something fishy: Martial arriving at Old Trafford, set to start alongside Marcus Rashford, only to head off once again with kickoff an hour or so away.
But it is worth noting – before Twitter becomes a war-zone on this pleasant Sunday afternoon – that the Frenchman was not seen in the training photos of the Man United first team squad yesterday.
It is very likely that Martial turned up to Old Trafford as a doubt for the game and was eventually branded not fit enough to play. So, please, put the knives away for now.
