Michael Carrick sends important message to Manchester United supporters

Michael Carrick has thanked the Manchester United fans for their support over the last 12 years as he ended his playing career at the club on Sunday.

The English midfielder has had one of the most prestigious careers in the club’s history, winning every trophy available to him since signing for big money from Tottenham Hotspur in 2006.

Carrick lifted the UEFA Europa League last season to add to multiple Premier Leagues, League Cups and Community Shields as well as an FA Cup, a Club World Cup and a UEFA Champions League.

After starting in a 1-0 win against Watford in the final league game of the season, Carrick spoke to the fans remaining at Old Trafford.

The club captain began by thanking the fans for their support of all the players over the season, not just himself.

“First of all on behalf of the players, staff, coaching staff, we’d like to thank you for the support throughout this season,” Carrick began.

“We’ve had our ups and downs this season but we’ve finished 2nd and we thank you very much.”

United have had a tumultuous season, but have secured second place and will go to Wembley next week for the FA Cup Final.

But the main focus on Sunday was on Carrick, one of the most loved players in the dressing room at United as well as within the fanbase.

“On behalf of myself, a massive thank you, your support has been unbelievable,” Carrick continued.

“We’ve got a lot of memories to cherish. It’s an amazing place to play football.

“It’s the greatest club in the world and I thank you for your support in the last 12 years.”

“I’ve been here 12 years, I want to stay a massive thank you to my family, it’s a lot of sacrifice goes into playing football and playing for this club, it’s great to see all the families here. I’m grateful for everything you’ve done for me.”

Carrick has been one of the players who has managed to stay connected with the fans more than others, often being spotted in the away end in matches where he’s not involved in the squad due to injury.

 He’s now staying as a coach, as part of Jose Mourinho’s coaching staff, and United fans are delighted with that.
