Ander Herrera has insisted that Manchester United are going in the right direction, despite winning no silverware throughout the 2017-18 season.
Man United also finished 19 points behind Premier League champions Manchester City and suffered humiliating League Cup and Champions League knock-outs by Bristol City and Sevilla.
José Mourinho and co. had the chance to finish the campaign off in fine fashion though, by securing a 13th FA Cup at Wembley Stadium on Saturday, but lost 1-0 to Chelsea courtesy of Eden Hazard’s first-half penalty.
Yet United’s league tally of 81 points was the highest since Sir Alex Ferguson’s title-winning retirement in 2013, and Herrera believes the club are going in the right direction at the end of Mourinho’s second year in charge:
“I think we are going to the right way. This season, we cannot take credit out from what Man City have done because they deserve to be champions and they have been almost perfect this season, or perfect.
“I think we have to keep going in this way. I think we are doing things right and try to be back playing finals.”
The defeat to Chelsea on Saturday was Herrera’s 6th trip to the national stadium in his four years at United, and his first unsuccessful trip, and he’s looking forward to more encounters on the sacred turf in the near future.
He continued: “I think I’ve been here already four seasons and I have played a lot of finals here, which is very good.
“This club is about trophies but first of all to win trophies you have to play finals and I think we are doing that.”
