Peter Crouch has reminded supporters of Jose Mourinho’s achievements already as Manchester United ahead of the FA Cup Final next weekend.
United meet Chelsea in the showpiece final on Saturday at Wembley Stadium and are aiming to win a third major trophy in two seasons since Mourinho took charge in the summer of 2016.
Mourinho has received mass criticism over the style of play his teams adopt though, but former Liverpool striker Crouch believes he’s closer than many believe to leading United to Premier League glory again.
He wrote in his Daily Mail column: “If United beat Chelsea next Saturday — and I really wouldn’t be tempted to bet against them — that will be three trophies in the space of 16 months. The game is about getting trophies and results and Jose Mourinho has proven he is the man to get them.”
United have already won the League Cup and their first ever UEFA Europa League in less than a year-and-a-half with Mourinho as manager, as well as the FA Community Shield.
Crouch continued: “I do not for one minute think that City will have it all their own way next season in terms of the title race. I said a couple of weeks ago that I expect Liverpool to be in the mix but United will be right there, too. They have plenty more to give – and the right man to get the best out of them.”
A trophyless season after the accomplishments last term would be a blow for all associated at Manchester United, but a record-equalling 13th FA Cup would be the cherry on top of a decent season.
